Fergal Nally Lecture 2023: Professor Áine Hyland

The Fergal Nally Lecture 2023 titled 'Education – A Transformational Journey?' will be delivered by Professor Áine Hyland, Emeritus Professor of Education and former Vice-President of University College Cork, Ireland.

Áine Hyland is Emeritus Professor of Education and former Vice-President of University College Cork, Ireland. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from Trinity College Dublin, and was awarded an honorary D.Sc., by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, an honorary D.Litt. by University College Dublin and an honorary Fellowship by the National College of Ireland in recognition of her services to education. She was elected a member of the Royal Irish Academy in 2018.

She has been active in education circles in Ireland and internationally for many years. She has been chairperson and a member of a number of Government-appointed commissions and committees and has published books and articles on Irish education (including higher education), educational policy, educational disadvantage and curriculum and assessment. She was chairperson of the Commission on the Points system in the late 1990s and of the (statutory) Educational Disadvantage Committee which reported in 2005. She was involved with the European Universities Association in university institutional evaluations across twelve countries of the European Higher Education Area from 2006 to 2016.

This event will take place on Monday, April 17 2023 at 6.30pm (Irish Time) in the Albert Lecture Theatre RCSI. The lecture is free of charge to attend, however pre-registration is essential.

The Fergal Nally Lecture was established by the Faculty of Dentistry, RCSI in 2003 to honour Dr. Nally for his enormous contribution to the Faculty, to RCSI and to Dentistry in general over the years.
